I do not wish to speak for others.  I hope this will encourage the supporters of the Masterpoint Rating System to speak for themselves.

 

            Even though “We have a rating system that is universally accepted as being invalid”, most members want to keep the Masterpoint Rating System the way it is.  Most members do not want the ACBL to fix it.

            Many years ago, I would ask directors to send me their game files.  One director said no because his players did not want to know their true skill level.  I thought that was an odd response, but it does illustrate the charm of the Masterpoint Rating System.  Everybody has a rating but there is no relationship between the rating and their true skill level.  Everybody can say they have x number of Masterpoints, but they are a much better player than that.
